Although this flower can be seen in bloom at any time of the year, spring is when the masses of gorse gives a wonderful yellow glow to the countryside. This is so frequently accompanied by a fall of snow, letting us know that, although sring is here, winter is reluctant to let go.

This extremely attractive flower is grown in this country as a house plant and comes in a variety of colours. You do need to be quick to enjoy the flower as it only lasts one day however the plant can produce a constant display of flowers.

This view of the parish of Bywell is from New Ridley and is the area east of Brockbushes roundabout. Standing in New Ridley and looking north you can always see a vast extent of sky which is the main inspiration for this picture.

Allensford is on the Northumberland Durham border where the A68 road crosses the river Derwent. This section of the river was once a very popular site for local people before the caravan and picnic site was was constucted.

This small wood is situated next to the caravan park at Allansford, Consett, Co. Durham. It has public footpaths through it and makes a very interesting walk at any time of the year.

The Derwent Reservoir, on the border of Co. Durham and Northumberland, is a popular place for walking, sailing, birdwatching and me.

A short section of the river Derwent at Shotley Bridge is lined on both sides by beech trees which in autumn give a spectacular display but, as with the blossom in spring, the winds make it very short lived.

This area of Northumberland, New Ridley, Stocksfield, is criss-crossed by footpaths of a variety of distances. This is a short walk, much of the way overlooking Hindley.

Travelling on the A68 north about 5 miles into Northumberland from Co Durham take the right hand turn at the Scales Cross (Minsteracres) cross roads and you cross two small bridges over streams. This is The Bridges.
